Announcement

February is National Heart Month! Let's all do our part to get heart healthy. The American Heart Association is pushing for everybody to be trained in CPR. YEs even our sweet children. With the recent cardiac issues in the NFL, and over 350,00 cases of cardiac arrest, we all need to be prepared. Call you local heart association or YMCA and see if they have a training. Let's all do our part to be prepared!

Goals

My goal is to teach our babies about about what it means to be healthy and why it is so important. We will be focusing on mental and physical strengths. While learning about our bodies and making them function like a machine, my hope is the students will find joy in exercise. As we all know, Mississippi is one of the most obese states in the United States. With dual working parents and fast food being so readily available, it is so easy for our young children to fall into the same unhealthy habits. My hopes is to be a resource to the parent and try and break the cycle by teaching our children about the importance of movement and the proper nutrition.

About the teacher

Education

I have bachelors degree In Early Childhood Education from Arkansas State University and have completed 12 hours towards my masters degree.

Experience

I am in my 21st year as a teacher and my twenty second  year in education. I started my career as a preschool coordinator for Phillips County developmental Center overseeing the services and education of preschoolers with special needs. After a short time here, I moved on to be the education coordinator for head start in Forrest City, Arkansas. I spent a year and a half working for head start when I was offered a teaching position in Forrest City. At Forrest City, I taught first, third, fourth, and sixth grades. I have spent 5 years teaching math and science to 5th graders at Southaven Intermediate before coming to OBE. At OBE, I was a special education teacher for three years before moving over to P.E. I have been in P.E. for the past three years.

Bio

I am happy to be teaching at Olive Branch elementary. I have been teaching in the Forrest City, Arkansas school district all of my career and decided it was time for a change.

I live in Hernando but am not a native of the south. I was born and raised in California and decided at 21 that I needed a slower pace in life not the fast pace life of the big city.

I have a daughter, Kayla, who is married and lives still in El Dorado, Arkansas. She attended Forrest City schools and then South Arkansas College where  she  graduated with here radiology  credentials. She and her husband Caleb have 2 beautiful little girls,  Hadleigh, who is 10 and Paige Jerri, who is 2. these precious girls are Grammy's heart and soul.

I am an avid fisherman and golfer. I can usually be found at a campground around this great nation of ours fishing, boating and hiking with my family.  I just love the outdoors and spending time with my grands!

I am looking forward to working with the children and parents this year and learning all I can about this great area.
